Abstract: The specific objectives of our ROV survey were to: 1. Survey and characterize the distribution, abundance, and condition of deep-sea coral and sponge communities in OCNMS, specifically in new areas proposed for bottom fishing closures; 2. Quantify fish and invertebrate associations with DSC to help understand the value of DSC as habitat; 3. Collect limited DSC and sponge specimens to confirm taxonomic identification; 4. Make visual observations of sea floor substratum to ground-truth and to refine habitat classifications derived from side scan and/or multibeam sonar data. Due to initial ROV equipment problems, followed by high seas, only one priority site was surveyed by the ROV. However, the AUV was able to survey two sites. No biological samples were collected.
