Data Set Description: This is a subset of the Deep Sea Coral Research and Technology Program’s National Database. The data set contains records of deep-sea corals and sponges from the Natural History Museum, London, UK. The museum contains one of the world’s largest collections of marine invertebrates, including many type specimens. Many of the deep-sea invertebrates form the HMS Challenger Expedition and other historic expeditions of discovery are housed here. Selected records were derived from the literature, as well as, or in conjunction with, direct queries to the online collections database. Changes to the original dataset may have been made to conform to the National Database Schema and for quality control purposes. For additional information on the zoology collections of the Museum see: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/collections/zoology-collections.html
